DPX GEAR CELEBRATES A DECADE OF DESIGN EXCELLENCE WITH A SPECIAL RUN OF THE LEGENDARY ACULUS®

The Limited-Edition Aculus Decade Edition Combines American MagnaCut Steel, Italian Titanium Craftsmanship, and Ten Years of Evolution

DPx Gear proudly announces the return of one of its most coveted designs with the release of the DPx Gear Aculus Decade Edition, a limited-production folding knife celebrating ten years of uncompromising innovation, craftsmanship, and functional design.

Few knives in the DPx Gear catalog have achieved the near-mythical status of the Aculus. Originally conceived during a drive through the Italian Alps in the spring of 2015, the knife began as a conversation between DPx Gear founder Robert Young Pelton and LionSteel owner Gianni Pauletta following the IWA OutdoorClassics trade show in Germany.

Both men shared a passion for perfection and as they wound through the dramatic mountain passes toward Maniago, Italy—the historic heart of Italian knife making—they debated a simple question: Could a folding knife be both brutally tough and elegantly refined?

Pelton answered by sketching his concept on a napkin. The concept was not only elegant but very close to the final production model: It was a slender 3.26-inch folding knife with flowing continuous curves, a sword grind blade, and an ergonomic textured handle sculpted from a single block of Grade 5 titanium alloy. In a direct challenge to traditional knifemaking logic. The design removed more material than it left behind, creating a frame that was as much sculpture as it was tool.

Pelton's time in the jungles of Borneo reminded him of the aculeus—the sharp, needle-like stinger of a scorpion—a fitting tribute to its slender yet formidable point and tungsten carbide glass breaker.

Turning that sketch into reality proved anything but simple.  Titanium is notoriously difficult to machine. Its toughness, flexibility, tendency to harden, generate excessive heat, and resist cutting pushed LionSteel's new five-axis CNC equipment to its limits. Pauletta slowed machining speeds, increased coolant flow, and developed exceptionally rigid setups to carve Pelton's intricate flowing patterns into solid titanium.  Together, they created something unique.

When the original DPx Gear Aculus debuted in 2016, only 100 pieces were produced. At the time, DPx Gear had built its reputation designing uncompromising hard-use knives trusted by Special Forces teams, explosive ordnance disposal technicians, law enforcement professionals, first responders, and security specialists.

The Aculus was different.

Designed specifically for executive protection and close protection professionals, it combined gentlemanly dimensions with bombproof construction. Its discreet profile concealed exceptional strength, while the integrated tungsten carbide glass breaker provided emergency capability without sacrificing elegance.  Collectors immediately recognized its significance.  The original run sold out quickly.

The design would later be licensed to Gianni to be LionSteel's acclaimed T-Spine, including highly sought-after editions featuring Chad Nichols Damascus steel. Subsequent DPx Gear small-run releases featuring diamond-knurled and wave-patterned titanium handles continued to refine the platform. Every variation advanced the original vision while remaining true to its core philosophy:

Simple. Elegant. Brutal. Functional. A work of art that works.  Today, after a decade of refinement, the Aculus returns.

The Aculus Decade Edition represents the most advanced evolution of the platform to date. It features an American-made CPM MagnaCut blade hardened to 62–65 HRC with a high saber grind for exceptional cutting performance and edge retention. A custom flipper mechanism rides on IKBS bearings for fast, smooth deployment.

The signature titanium frame is once again machined from a solid block of 6Al4V titanium, now featuring DPx Gear's most visually striking and functional sculpted texture yet: the wave pattern. The knife retains its exceptionally deep-carry pocket clip, slim profile, and unmistakable silhouette while pushing both machining and ergonomics even further.

"The Aculus has always represented the intersection of engineering, artistry, and purpose," said Robert Young Pelton, founder of DPx Gear. "The Decade Edition is still unapologetically functional, still incredibly strong, and still unlike anything else on the market."

Produced in limited numbers, the DPx Gear Aculus Decade Edition is another legendary benchmark in knife design and blade design.
